It was found that Ed’s sperm count was inadequate to induce pregnancy. Hence, the couple looked for a willing donor. Andy, the brother of Ed, readily consented to donate his sperm. In order for Ed to establish his paternity over Alvin, the following requirements must be complied with:
a. He and his spouse must show that they authorized or ratified the artificial insemination before the birth of Alvin;
b. Said authorization or ratification should appear in a written instrument;
c. Said written instrument, together with the birth certificate of Alvin, should be recorded in the civil registry.
